To celebrate the end of a fun and active Summer 2002, the Labor Day Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament was changed to a "Scramble" format this year to provide a new, unpredictable and entertaining play format.
8 mixed doubles teams started play at 9:00 a.m. and continued in 20 minute intervals until around 11:30 a.m. Lunch, refreshments and a random prize drawing followed the event.
After each interval, the teams that won the most games moved one court towards Court 1 and split up. Teams that won the least games moved one court towards Court 4 and split up. The winning team on Court 1 split up and paired with the new team arriving from Court 2. The losing team on Court 4 split up and paired with the new team arriving from Court 3. The winner of a tie in games was decided by a spin of the racquet.
