The 2004 Juniors Tournament again topped last year's record enrollment making this year's lessons and tournament the largest junior tennis session ever.
The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Scott Livingston, a member of the Wentzville Holt High Tennis Team. Scott is an excellent role model for younger players because he is courteous and respectful on and off the courts. He quickly gives his help when asked and admirably volunteers his help when not asked. Congratulations!
Junior Tennis Stars Shine In Tourney
For a couple days in June each year, Lake St. Louis tennis players ages 7 to 16 fill the C.A. courts to compete in their very own tournament. Every participant receives either a trophy or a medal to take home. Sponsors this year include Martin Trophy, LSL Mother's Club, LSL Buy Rite, Newstime, Tennis & Hockey Specialists of Wentzville, and Benrus Surgical Associates of St. Peters. With our generous sponsors, the event continues to grow each year.
The doubles competition took place first on June 25th with 40 participants.
The singles competition was held June 30th after a week-long postponement due to rain. The extra week gave the 38 participants more time to sharpen their skills and become even more determined to win!
Special thanks to court umpires Curt Juergens, Julie Gordon, Chris Hollenbeck, Phil Sutherlin, Riki Brown, Kurt Silberberg, Katie O'Shea, Scott Livingston, and Ken Hacker. The tournament could not have been a success without you.
Start practicing for next year, Juniors! Registration begins March 1st for enrollment in the LSLCA Junior Tennis Program for Lake St. Louis children ages 6 to 16. The program runs the months of June and July (8 weeks). You may sign up for one month or two. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes are offered each Monday and Wednesday mornings. Instruction is provided by Donna Austin, USPTR certified tennis pro and her staff, who knows how to make tennis fun for the children. Skill games, drills, and competition are provided in group lessons for children wanting to learn to play for the first time (whether they are 6 or 16 years old) or for children wanting to improve their existing skills. Please visit the C.A. Office after March 1st for a registration form. See you on the courts!
