15 teams (30 players) took to the courts for the tournament on Friday night, June 24. The hot, humid weather took its toll, as three teams dropped out during play on Saturday due to long and hard fought sets of competitive tennis.

The finals began at 6:00 p.m. after the Tennis Association dinner at 5:00 p.m. Carol & Karl Bloomberg overcame Sue Ware and Pat Silberberg to win the B-Flight finals by taking a closely contested first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (10-8), and the second set 6-1.

The spectators enjoyed another entertaining match as the rival teams of Lisa Rutherford & Al Clark matched their skills with Julie Gordon & Curt Juergens for the A-Flight finals. The match began with Julie and Curt taking a close first set 6-4. Lisa and Al turned the match around, convincingly capturing the second set 6-2. They continued their push and momentum into the third set forging to a 5-1 lead over Julie and Curt. The match seemed to be practically over, that is until Julie and Curt began their comeback. Julie and Curt proceeded to win the next 6 straight games to take the final set and match 7-5. All were on the edges of their seats until the final winning point. Congratulations to all participants for making this another enjoyable event.

Thanks also to Chris and Rodger Hollenbeck for another finely run tournament and to our sponsors listed below.
